The Johnston County EMS Cadets have won second place in a statewide competition as part of the North Carolina Association of Rescue and EMS’ annual meeting and convention.
The team from Johnston County had to respond to a mock situation of a mass shooting at a political rally. The team worked calmly to mitigate the scenario successfully.
The Johnston County EMS Cadet program includes kids ages 15 through 18 from across the county. The program, overseen by Captain Kim Grimes, helps train teens who are interested in careers in EMS and allows them to ride along with paramedics.
The program was started in 2013.
