The four Democrats running for the Wake County Board of Commissioners are allying themselves with the school board’s Democratic majority in their election bid.
In a press release Tuesday, the Wake County Democratic Party unveiled the first two of their 14 reasons for why voters should back their candidates for the county commission races. Both reasons, according to the press release, “deal with education and the GOP Commission majority’s assault on public education and partisan attacks on the school board.”
The Wake Democratic Party says the reasons are:
• “The GOP majority on the Board of Commissioners have consistently rejected budget requests from the Wake County Public School System (WCPSS). Our schools rank near the bottom in per pupil spending in the state, which ranks near the bottom nationally. As well, the GOP majority have pursued an adversarial relationship with the school board including pushing their allies in the legislature to take the school board’s authority to build schools, needlessly delaying school construction, and to redraw school board districts in order to game the system in their favor.”
• “The ‘More with Four’ team will work collaboratively with the school board, parents, teachers, business and community leaders in order to make sure our award winning public school system remains a primary driver of economic development.”
The “More with Four” reference deals with the new website launched Tuesday that promote the four Democratic candidates. The “More with Four” campaign is supposed to educate voters that they can vote on all four commission races.
With Republicans holding a 4-3 majority and all four GOP incumbents on the ballot, Democrats just need to win one seat to gain the majority.
