John Burns, a Democratic candidate for the Wake County Board of Commissioners, will discuss “what’s at stake this year” for education at a press conference on Wednesday.
In a media advisory Monday, Burns said he’ll be joined by “several Wake County current and retired educators to discuss the importance of the this year’s election for Wake County Public Schools.” The press conference is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Williams Park next to Lynn Road Elementary School in Raleigh.
Burns has argued that he’ll do a better job supporting education than Republican Commissioner Paul Coble.
If Democrats take the majority on the board of commissioners, it could lead to more funding for the school system – both for the operating budget and for the size of the next school construction bond issue. If Democrats sweep all four seats next week to gain a 7-0 majority, they’d have control for the next four years.
