John Burns, a Democratic candidate for the Wake County Board of Commissioners, is drawing Republican criticism for his comments opposing a travel ban on Ebola-impacted countries.
In a Tuesday press release, Wake County Republican Party Chairwoman Donna Williams says she’s “shocked” by tweets and reteweets from Burns’ Twitter account mocking a travel ban. In one post, Burns tweets “Travel ban makes sense. The town that builds walls always survives the zombie movie.”
Pointing to a poll showing support for a travel ban, Williams says that Burns should be “apologizing for tweets & retweets which belittle and demean the majority of Americans,”
There haven’t been any reported Ebola cases in Wake County. But the school system is asking some students if they’ve traveled to Africa in the last 21 days. Wake County 911 dispatchers are also asking some people who call about where they’ve traveled.
