The Wake County Democratic Party says that the Wake GOP is being “desperate” and “ridiculous” with recent attacks on John Burns and Matt Calabria, who are both Democratic candidates for the Wake County Board of Commissioners.
On Tuesday, Wake County Republican Party Chairwoman Donna Williams said Burns should apologize for sarcastic Tweets opposing a travel ban on Ebola-impacted countries. On Wednesday, Williams said Calabria should apologize for having supported the now scandal-plagued Department of African and Afro-American Studies when the Democrat ran for UNC-Chapel Hill student body president in 2004.
“From Ebola, to the UNC academic scandal, the Wake GOP is obviously desperate; throwing ridiculous attacks against the wall hoping something will stick in an effort to distract from their County Commissioners abysmal record,” Wake County Democratic Party Chairman Dan Blue III responded in a statement Wednesday afternoon.
“From raising their own pay nearly 5 times that of teachers, to refusing to even discuss their own transit plan for 3 years, to wasting time and money opposing gay marriage, the GOP majority has been taking us in the wrong direction. By electing the ‘More with FOUR’ Team, we can get Wake County back on the path that made us the best place to live, work and play in America.”
