New principal named to Athens Drive High School

The Wake County school board announced Tuesday that James Hedrick will be the new principal of Athens Drive High School in Raleigh.

Hedrick has been principal of Green Hope High School in Cary since 2005. His start date at Athens Drive, where his salary will be $131,556, hasn’t been determined yet.

Also on Tuesday, Kathryn Chontos was named interim assistant superintendent for student support services. She retired in 2010 as area superintendent for western Wake.

Craig Matthews was named interim principal of Aversboro Elementary School in Garner. He’s held various interim positions since his retirement.
