The Wake County school board appointed Danny Barnes on Tuesday to be the interim principal of Green Hope High School in Cary.

Barnes, who retired as Wake’s chief area superintendent last year, will work at Green Hope to March 31. He’s stepping in for James Hedrick, who is leaving to become principal of Athens Drive High School in Raleigh.

Also on Tuesday, Vicki Brown’s stay as interim principal of Knightdale Elementary School was extended to Feb. 28. She’s been filling in at the school since December.
