Track 3 has never been one of the more popular year-round tracks in Wake County, but those families are feeling lucky this year.

Due to the timing of the snow days, track 3 students at the year-round schools don’t have any Saturday makeup days. Instead, they’re using banked hours to meet the state’s 1,025-hour requirement.

In contrast, track 4 students face seven Saturday makeup days. Track 4 has historically been the most popular track, followed by track 1.

Tracks 1 and 2 both have five Saturday makeup days.

Prior to the changes made for this school year in the state’s calendar law, schools had to meet both a minimum number of days and hours. Now it’s either or with most school districts opting to meet the hours requirement.
