The Wake County school board on Tuesday appointed a new assistant superintendent and an interim principal at a Raleigh elementary school.

Brenda Elliott was hired to be assistant superintendent for student support services, receiving a salary of $121,440. She’s been executive director of student services and character development in the Guilford County school system since 2009.

In a related move, the members of Superintendent Jim Merrill’s leadership team had their contracts extended to June 30, 2017 to match his contract. This includes the deputy superintendent, chiefs, area superintendents and assistant superintendents.

The board also named Darryl Fisher the interim principal of Barwell Road Elementary School in Southeast Raleigh for the rest of the school year. Fisher, who was the principal of Wilburn Elementary School from 1985 to 2006, has held various interim positions since retiring in 2011.
