Wake County families can celebrate another snow day on Thursday by finding out if they’ve been accepted into a magnet school or early college for the 2015-16 school year.
Despite the bad weather that has closed schools since Tuesday, the Wake County school system still posted online Thursday the magnet application results. People who didn’t get their first choice, even if they were placed in a lower choice, will go on a wait list. If there are openings, Wake will place people from the waitlists in April.
Never miss a local story.
Historically, Wake has kept the waitlists through June when a second round of people are placed. Then the lists are dissolved.
But the school board will review a request from staff to dissolve the waitlists after people are placed in April. School officials have said it complicates staffing – which is based off student enrollment – to continue placing people in magnet schools in June.
Last year, 2,586 students didn’t get their first choice and were placed on wait lists. The timing of when the waitlists are dissolved could impact a number of families.
Families who strike out can try to backdoor their way in by submitting a transfer request. But if the transfer is approved, it would come without bus service.
