Instead of a short school week, Wake County's year-round students could face back-to-back six-day weeks to help make up for this week's snow days.
School officials announced this afternoon that this Saturday's makeup day for year-round schools has been postponed to Feb. 28 due to persistent stretches of ice on secondary roads. Next Saturday will be used to make up Tuesday's snow day - one of four lost days from this week.
While makeup days haven't been announced yet for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, the next likely option for year-round students would be March 7 when tracks 1, 3 and 4 are still in session.
After that, the next time those three tracks are all together would be the Saturdays of May 16, May 23 and May 30. Wake could use two of those three Saturdays to fill up the remaining makeup days.
Wake could also say that because year-round schools already have more than the state's annual minimum of 1,025 hours of instruction that they'll bank some of the extra time to forgive one or more of the snow days.
