SANFORD -- A 16-year-old died from his injuries after fleeing from a house police said he and other teens broke into Saturday afternoon.

Oscar Lorenzo Perez, 16, of 1528 Greenwood Road, died Saturday at Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford, according to the Lee County Sheriff's Office. Shards of glass were found inside Perez's chest, police said.

Lee County investigators said that Perez, along with Antonio Ramiro Jaimes, 17, of 25 Willow Circle, and two 14-year-olds broke into a house at 1810 San Lee Drive just before 2 p.m.

When the home alarm went off, the suspects tried to flee. Perez escaped through a window and was cut by glass, according to police.

A motorist spotted Perez on the side of a nearby road with the other teenage suspects and called 911, police said.

Jaimes and the two other suspects are in custody charged with breaking and entering.
