Butner service to honor slain mother

A memorial service will be held today for a Granville County woman whose body was found last week, more than a year after she'd been reported missing.

The service for Kelly Currin Morris will be held at 3 p.m. at Bible Baptist Church, 2047 Gate Number 2 Rd., in Butner.

Morris' skeletal remains were found just inside the fence of a private hunting preserve outside Creedmoor.

Memorial service today for slain mother

Family and friends will gather in a Butner church this afternoon for memorial service for Kelly Currin Morris, a slain Granville County woman who had been missing for more than 14 months.

Morris, a Granville County 28-year-old mother of two, was last seen Sept. 3, 2008. Her family searched for her, or her body, for 14 months until her remains were found Nov. 17 in a 900-acre tract where dogs chase coyotes and foxes for sport.

Morris' husband, William Scott Morris, 35, is now in jail, charged with first-degree murder the same day his wife's remains were discovered.

Slain mother remembered

Family and friends of Kelly Currin Morris said goodbye to the young Granville County mother of two, more than 14 months after she left their lives.

As many as 500 people crowded into the chapel of Bible Baptist Church in Butner to attend a memorial service for Morris, 28, whose remains were found Nov. 17 in a 900-acre tract where dogs chase coyotes and foxes for sport.

"We're stunned," the Rev. Keith Williams said. "We're heartbroken."

One-year anniversary marked for missing woman

Family and friends of a Granville County woman who has been missing for a year will gather tonight to mark the anniversary of her disappearance.

Kelly Currin Morris, 28, vanished sometime after her stepmother saw her the night of Sept. 3, 2008, and before firefighters rushed to her Granville County house the next day to subdue a fire. Morris had not shown up at work that day. Firefighters found no trace of her in the charred house.

The next day, deputies found Morris' car, with purse and keys inside, abandoned in an unfinished subdivision near her house in Stem.

Husband charged with Kelly Morris murder

More than a year after a young mother from Granville County was reported missing, her husband has been charged with her murder.

William Scott Morris, 35, of Creedmoor was charged with first-degree murder late Tuesday, according to the arrest warrant. Authorities think he killed his wife, Kelly Currin Morris, then 28, in September 2008.

Granville County Sheriff Brindell Wilkins Jr. said this afternoon that his department received information Monday that led them to Kelly Morris’ skeletal remains off Sam Moss Hayes Road north of Creedmoor. She was identified through dental records, Wilkins said at an press conference. He did not provide other details about the case.
