With World AIDS Day well under way, communities across the globe are hosting events to raise awareness about the disease and remember those who have died. Here are some facts on who is being affected by the disease.
In the United States
-Over 1.2 million people are infected with HIV/AIDS
-1 out of every 7 do not know they are inflected

-Gay and bisexual men, particularly African Americans are the group most severely affected
-35 million people are currently living with HIV/AIDS
-19 million of them do not know they are infected
-2 out of 3 of the infected live in Sub-Saharan Africa
-3.2 million of those infected are children. Most were infected by their HIV-positive mothers during pregnancy, childbirth or breastfeeding
-Only 1% of babies born to HIV-infected mothers contract the disease
-HIV is the leading infectious killer across the globe
-In 2013, 1.5 million people died of causes linked to AIDs in 2013
