MORE PROTECTION
Changes being considered to the town's tree protection ordinance include:
* Requiring a landowner to apply for a permit and provide a landscape protection plan identifying rare and specimen trees when planning to disturb land totaling 5,000 square feet or more.
* Lowering the minimum diameters for trees that must be included in a landscape protection plan (this type of plan is already required for commercial and multi-family development).
* Hiring a consultant to help the town rewrite the ordinance to provide for no net loss of tree canopy and overall growth of tree cover in proportion to the town's population growth.
