Police are still trying to determine who fired gunshots at a Donald Trump sign hung outside a home on Morrisville Carpenter Road last weekend, shattering a window.
Police said the shots fired at the Trump-Pence “Make America Great Again” sign hanging on the front porch were likely from a BB gun or a pellet rifle. Randall Rhyne, head of Cary’s criminal investigations division, did not say whether there are any leads in the case, calling it “an active investigation.”
The incident was reported at 9:21 p.m. Saturday night, according to the police report.
“We were called out there and found damage to the sign and to the window of the home,” Rhyne said.
Early Thursday afternoon, shattered glass from the window of the front door remained on the porch. The Trump-Pence sign was gone.
Rhyne said signs are vandalized in every election, generally on both sides. He said that during this campaign season, he does not remember any cases of vandalism that were “out of the ordinary other than this incident.”
Since Trump’s victory has been announced, Rhyne said, he is not aware of any calls to the department because of incidents of vandalism.
