While the candidates for governor and U.S. Senate spar over the details of their debate schedule, the candidates for three down-ballot contests have agreed to debate each other.
The North Carolina Institute of Political Leadership has organized three debates in September – one each for lieutenant governor, state treasurer and attorney general.
The debates will be broadcast statewide on UNC-TV’s North Carolina Channel as well as on radio stations that are part of the North Carolina News Network. Local newspaper editors will question the candidates.
Lieutenant governor candidates Dan Forest and Linda Coleman are scheduled to debate in Wilson on Sept. 13. Attorney general candidates Josh Stein and Buck Newton will debate in Asheboro on Sept. 20. And state treasurer candidates Dan Blue III and Dale Folwell will debate on Sept. 27 in Statesville.
