A who’s who of recent North Carolina Democratic powerhouses will be heading down east later this month for a fundraiser for state Supreme Court candidate Judge Sam Ervin IV.
Ervin is running against his former appeals court colleague Justice Bob Hunter, whom Gov. Pat McCrory recently elevated to fill a vacancy on the Supreme Court created by the mandatory retirement of the chief justice.
The event will be held at the Wilson home of former state secretary of cultural resources Betty Ray McCain on Sept. 16, hosted by her and former Gov. Jim Hunt.
There aren’t many prominent living Democrats who aren’t on the guest list — far too many to mention here. OK, here’s a few: Tom Bradshaw, Phil Carlton, Gene Conti, Sid Eagles, Franklin Freeman, Henry E. Frye, Burley Mitchell, Ed Turlington, Brad Wilson. You get the idea.
Never miss a local story.
Tickets start at $50 and top out at $1,000.
