State Senate candidate Molotov Mitchell wants opponent Sen. Josh Stein to drop to the floor and do push-ups.
In a video released Tuesday titled “Man Up, Stein!” the Republican hopeful participates in the latest charity video trend and extends a challenge to the incumbent Democrat. It’s similar to the ALS ice bucket challenge and involves doing 22 push-ups and donating $22 to a charity supporting veterans.
Mitchell’s video shows off his fitness with 22 push-ups – each with a clap in between. He goes on to criticize Stein for avoiding a candidate debate, adding that “maybe he’ll at least do 22 push-ups for veterans.”
The caption on the screen gives Stein an alternative: “Josh, you can do girl/yoga push-ups if you need to.”
Mitchell was taking the challenge from another notable in Wake County politics: Heather Losurdo, the Republican who ran for school board in 2011.
Mitchell’s campaign has been among the more colorful legislative races this year. He’s offered “my candidate can beat up your candidate” shirts and held a Bourbon and Bullets fundraiser.
