Country singer Jo Dee Messina will perform a free concert for Rep. Renee Ellmers campaign Friday.
Messina will perform at 6:45 p.m. at The Regency in Dunn.
“For the past couple of election cycles, I have enjoyed playing across the country for candidates who support our military and our veterans,” Messina said in a statement. “I believe Renee Ellmers is someone who has given her unwavering support to the greatest military in the world, and I am happy to support her re-election campaign.”
Ellmers, a Republican, is running for a third term in the 2nd District against Democrat Clay Aiken, who once sang but doesn’t anymore.
“I am thrilled country-legend Jo Dee Messina will have the opportunity to meet the great citizens of North Carolina I have the opportunity to represent in Congress,” Ellmers said in a statement.
Messina, who is originally from Framingham, Mass., has had nine No. 1 singles on the Billboard country charts.
