Democrat Tom Bradshaw hasn’t yet decided whether he’ll request a recount in contest for the state 15th District Senate seat.
Bradshaw lost to Republican John Alexander by 717 votes.
Because the two are separated by a 1 percent margin, Bradshaw has until next Wednesday to file a recount request before the vote tally becomes official. Bradshaw, a former Raleigh mayor and Democrat, loaned his campaign more than $600,000 in a race where spending eclipsed the $1 million mark.
“We’re going to take a little time, do a little due diligence,” said Gary Pearce, a consultant with Bradshaw’s campaign. “We don’t have any particular timetable.”
Reached Tuesday night, Alexander notes that the race came down to a “pretty small margin,” but was ready to declare victory.
“I’ve already had a call from (Senate leader) Phil Berger, he’s congratulated me,” Alexander said.
