Republican N.C. Senate candidate John Alexander has defeated Democrat Tom Bradshaw in a recount completed Wednesday.
Gary Sims of the Wake County Board of Elections said the recount upheld the previously reported vote total, which had Alexander winning by just 717 votes, or 0.89 percent of the total ballots cast.
The elections board will meet Thursday morning to certify the results. No further recount is expected, Sims said.
Bradshaw conceded the race to Alexander late Wednesday afternoon. “I wish him the best as he represents District 15 during the next legislative session,” he said. “I will continue to work hard in the future for the issues that I spoke about in the campaign and care about so deeply, especially education.”

A statewide recount continues in the N.C. Supreme Court race between incumbent Cheri Beasley and Mike Robinson, who trails by 5,427 votes or 0.22 percent of ballots cast. Counties are required to report their results from that recount by the end of the day Thursday.
