Gov. Pat McCrory has appointed Eric Davis of Charlotte to the State Board of Education. Davis, a senior vice president with Wells Fargo Corporate Real Estate Group and a West Point graduate, is a member of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education and one of its former chairman.
"Eric Davis has a strong background in education oversight, having previously served as chair of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education and on the CMS Superintendent's Standards Review Committee,"McCrory said in a statement. "We look forward to his work on the Board and the valuable insights he has gleaned from one of the state's largest school systems."
Davis replaces Marcella Savage of Union County, who is vice chairwoman of the local school board. The Union County board investigated her expenses and reportedly found a number of problems, including Savage seeking reimbursement from the state and the county boards for attending a single event.
Davis will serve the unexpired term ending March 31, 2021.
