Brandon leads in fundraising for 12th District race

At least four Democrats are running for the Congressional seat now held by U.S. Rep. Mel Watt of Charlotte. Watt, who has been nominated to head the federal Housing Finance Agency, has yet to be confirmed by the Senate. A look at the third quarter fundraising suggests he isn’t planning to stand for re-election if he doesn’t get the post. Watt has raised $10. State Rep. Marcus Brandon, by contrast, raised $90,500 during the quarter and more than $143,000 total.
