The sleeper races in 2014: four seats on the N.C. Supreme Court.

And two high-court justices are not waiting to get started on fundraising. Associate Justices Robin Hudson and Cheri Beasley are hosting a combo-fundraiser Thursday that asks donors to give up to the $4,000 maximum contribution.

The Raleigh event is drawing more than 100 sponsors including some big names: former N.C. Chief Justices Henry Frye, Burley Mitchell and James Exum, former Court of Appeals Judges Sidney Eagles Jr. and K. Edward Greene, Cressie Thigpen, David Kirby, Roger and Wade Smith, Phil Baddour, Doug and Peggy Abrams and Janet Ward Black.

Hudson and Beasley are registered Democrats competing in the nonpartisan race. It starts at 5 p.m. at the N.C. Advocates for Justice building.
