A four-time candidate for state insurance commissioner has joined the field to replace U.S. Rep. Howard Coble when the Greensboro Republican retires at the end of next year.

Mike Causey of Greensboro is a former insurance agent. He joins about half a dozen others seeking the GOP nomination for the 6th Congressional District, which stretches from Greensboro into Durham and Orange counties.

Causey was hired in September as a community development specialist with the state Department of Transportation.

Causey sent out a news release on Tuesday saying he will emphasize cutting government spending, creating jobs and supporting the military and veterans.

He is an Army veteran, who last ran for insurance commissioner in 2012.
