Durham Mayor Bill Bell was in Washington on Wednesday at a meeting of the U.S. Conference of Mayors, where he planned to make a case for federal dollars for light rail and affordable housing.

Bell said he spoke with Housing and Urban Development Secretary Shaun Donovan and hoped to meet with Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx.

“It’s always good to be able to remind them of what we’re doing and the importance of federal support,” he said.

The conference is a chance for 200 mayors from cities large and small to get together to share information and also to hear from Cabinet secretaries who speak at the conference.
