On the same day UNC-Chapel Hill Chancellor Carol Folt gave her speech on athletics and academics, she got a little good-natured ribbing about her lead foot.
It came at the Board of Trustees meeting Thursday, during a presentation by students from the School of Journalism and Mass Communication. The students won a contest by FOX Sports Creative University by creating a national advertising campaign called “Life on NASCAR.” The campaign was aimed at NASCAR’s Speedweeks and the Daytona 500.
Trustee Don Curtis of Raleigh couldn’t help himself. He leaned into the microphone and told the students: “Be sure to share your information on speed with certain members of our administration.”
Laughter all around. Folt had been cited for driving 76 mph in a 55 mph zone on Jan. 1 in Chatham County. She has a court date on Feb. 6. Folt’s citation had been reported in the Daily Tar Heel.
The students talked about contest winners going to the Daytona 500. To which Folt replied: “I’m down with that.”
