Americans for Prosperity Foundation starts statewide ad campaign

Statewide television and radio ads extolling state tax cuts start running today, paid for by the Americans for Prosperity Foundation. The television ad, called “The Facts,” highlights the dropping unemployment rate and delivers the tag line, “North Carolina, we’re headed in the right direction.”

John Dudley, state AFP Foundation director, would not say how much the foundation is paying for the three-week radio and ad run.

The foundation is also sponsoring at least three tax reform rallies through mid-June. The first, scheduled for May 29 at the State Fairgrounds, will feature Senate leader Phil Berger. The rallies are free, but require registration.

The ads and rallies come as “Moral Monday” demonstrations at the Legislative Building attract state, national and international attention. The weekly demonstrations draw hundreds of people who say policies of the Republican-led government have pushed the state much too far to the right.

The AFP effort is meant to be educational, said Donald Bryson, North Carolina deputy state director.

“If it counters bad messaging coming from the other side, that’s fine too,” he said.
