The department that runs the state’s courts has been struggling to keep up with caseloads for several years. Late last year the director of the Administrative Office of the Courts told legislators he needed to hire about 700 people just to keep up.
And he said computer technology is so outdated few people even still know how to work on it.
What’s the Senate budget’s response to that looming crisis? Cut the department’s technology budget by 24 percent.
The $3.7 million cut would leave close to $12 million in the technology services budget. The AOC would also have to find $1.5 million in reductions to administrative costs.
