Eight-term Republican senator Stan Bingham announced Wednesday he will retire at the end of his term.
Bingham is a lumber company owner who represents Davidson and Montgomery counties.
He is co-chairman of the Senate Program Evaluation Committee and the Appropriations Subcommittee on Justice and Public Safety.
Senate Leader Phil Berger made the announcement and issued this statement:
Never miss a local story.
“During his more than 15 years of service, Stan Bingham has been a legislator with common sense and a sense of humor, a champion for the people of Davidson County and a close friend. His work on issues such as strengthening our justice and public safety system and combating fraud and abuse against our citizens has improved the lives of North Carolinians.
“Although I hope to convince him to change his mind, I join the rest of my Senate colleagues in wishing Sen. Bingham well in his future endeavors.”
