'SOUTH PACIFIC' TO BE PERFORMED: Today is the final day of performances for Green Hope High School's production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's "South Pacific." Performances will be at the school auditorium, 2500 Carpenter Upchurch Road in Cary, at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Tickets may be purchased at the box office beginning one hour before curtain. Tickets cost $12 for people age 10 and over; $7 for students with an ID; and $5 for children under 10.

HOW TO BUY A USED CAR: Evans Tire and Automotive of Smithfield will offer a seminar Monday on buying used cars. The seminar is designed for men, women and students of any age who want to learn the inside secrets of how to find a good used car while avoiding scams and rip-offs. It will be held at 7 p.m. at 207 N. Brightleaf Blvd., Smithfield. To reserve a spot, call 934-6133.

INVESTIGATIVE REPORTER TO SPEAK: New York Times reporter Stephen Labaton, who co-wrote the first reports about John McCain's relationship to a female lobbyist, will discuss the role of the Internet and investigative reporting in political campaigns at Duke University on Monday. RALEIGH SUMMER JOB PROGRAM: About 160 summer jobs will be made available for local youth through the city of Raleigh's Summer Youth Employment Program.The program, administered by the city's community services department, is designed for young people between the ages of 14 and 21 who live within city limits. Youth selected for summer jobs will work between 20 and 35 hours each week. First- and second-year participants in the program will earn $6.15 per hour. Personal and career development workshops are conducted during the summer. Interested youth can go to any of 10 city locations to complete an application and prepare to be interviewed. Applicants must have a clear photocopy of their Social Security card and any one of the following documents: North Carolina state-issued driver's license (with photo); state-issued learner's permit (with photo); military identification (with photo); or a North Carolina identification card (with photo).

Applications can be completed at the following locations:

* Monday, 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., Tarboro Road Community Center.

* Wednesday, 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., Worthdale Community Center.

* March 24, 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., Chavis Community Center.

* March 25, 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., Lions Park Community Center.

* March 27, 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., Method Community Center.
