CHAPEL HILL -- Music, street performers and ethnic foods will enliven a global village Thursday at the FedEx Global Education Center at UNC-Chapel Hill.
From 5 to 8 p.m., the atrium of the center, at McCauley and Pittsboro streets, will be transformed into a village with markets like those common in Africa, Europe, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean.
The event is free and open to members of the public, who may participate in hair braiding, calligraphy and other activities. They can visit simulated clothing and rug shops and view cultural artifacts. Olives, spanikopita and traditional teas will be served. There will be belly dancing, Turkish dancing and African drumming. Artists will include the Kabari Drama Troupe, Zankiliwa, Rhythmicity and Gamelan Nyai Saraswati.
