RED SPRINGS -- A Fayetteville woman was killed early Tuesday morning after she and her boyfriend were ambushed on Old Red Springs Road in Robeson County, lawmen said.
Jessica Johnelle Cahoon, 26, was shot in the head after her vehicle was forced to stop, according to authorities.
Cahoon and her boyfriend, Antonio Locklear, 23, had been visiting Locklear's relatives in Red Springs, said Maj. Howard Branch, chief of detectives with the Robeson County Sheriff's Office.
They were celebrating Locklear's birthday and left the residence after midnight. They were traveling north on Old Red Springs Road when their vehicle was forced to stop by the driver of another vehicle, Branch said.
Three men got out of a champagne-colored Cadillac and began shooting, Branch said. Cahoon was sitting on the driver's side. Locklear jumped out of the vehicle and ran, Branch said. Locklear had minor injuries to his arm. He was taken to Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton, where he was treated and released.
Investigators do not have a motive, Branch said.
