MEET TV STARS, HELP BOYS & AND GIRLS CLUB: Stars of the HBO series "The Wire" will make an appearance Friday in Durham to support the John Avery Boys & Girls Club. The actors, Andre Royo and Michael K. Williams, will talk about the work and importance of the nonprofit club in helping youth. The event, sponsored by Ballen Media and N.C. Mutual Life Insurance Co., will be from 7 to 9 p.m. at Brandywine Cellars, 6905 Fayetteville Road, Suite 101, in Durham. Donations of $25 are to be made payable to John Avery Boys & Girls Club. ATTEND CARY COMMUNITY GALA: The Cary Community Foundation will host its annual Black & White Gala to raise money for the Founder's Fund on Saturday. The foundation makes grants to local nonprofit organizations that work to improve the quality of community life in Cary. The gala will be at 6 p.m. at Umstead Hotel and Spa. VOLUNTEER ON EARTH DAY: Durham Parks and Recreation and Keep Durham Beautiful need volunteers to help with Durham's Earth Day Festival on Saturday. The festival will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. in Durham Central Park, 502 Foster St. Volunteers get an Earth Day T-shirt and a pass to the volunteer hospitality lounge. HELP FUND SCHOLARSHIPS FOR YOUTH: A scholarship fundraiser and awards banquet celebrating the contributions of Triangle women will be held at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at the Sheraton Imperial Center Hotel, 4700 Emperor Drive, Durham. The banquet is sponsored by the Triangle East Chapter of 100 Black Men of America. Proceeds provide scholarships to deserving students and finance programs in the areas of mentoring, economic development, health and wellness, and education.
