YOUNGSVILLE — Emergency workers removed trees from a road near downtown this morning after a logging truck overturned, police reported.

"It's a mess," Youngsville Police Chief Larry Preticket said while directing traffic away from the wreck. "Most of the trees are on the road and the truck is upside down."

The accident occurred about 11 a.m. on South U.S. 1 Alternate in downtown Youngsville, near the town library, a Franklin County 911 dispatcher reported.

Both lanes of U.S.1A are open this afternoon.

Pritchett said a logging truck traveling south on the highway overturned along a curve and discharged almost its entire load of trees.

No charges are expected to be filed, said Capt. R. Adkins of the Youngsville police. The accident was caused when a strap holding down the trees broke.

No one was injured, police reported.

Pritchett said he expected the section of road to reopen before 2 p.m.
