UNC School of Pharmacy to be renamed

closeThe UNC-Chapel Hill School of Pharmacy will be renamed tomorrow for Fred Eshelman, a 1972 pharmacy school graduate and chief executive officer of Wilmington-based PPD, Inc.
In 2003, Eshelman pledged $20 million to the School of Pharmacy. At the time, it was the third largest single commitment in the University's history and the largest ever made to a pharmacy school in the United States.
He committed another $10 million to the school in 2007 to close out the University's Carolina First Campaign, which raised $2.38 billion overall. Eshelman's total support of the pharmacy school amounts to about $33 million. He has also served the school as an adjunct faculty member.

The renaming ceremony will take place at 3:30 p.m. in the Ralph P. and Libby Rogers Lobby of Kerr Hall. Speakers include UNC-Chapel Hill Chancellor James Moeser, Board of Trustees Chairman Roger Perry, School of Pharmacy Dean Bob Blouin and Eshelman.
