The Wake County Sheriff's office received several reports of a bear on the loose on the north side of Wake County near the Durham County line this morning.

Phyllis Stephens, spokeswoman for the sheriff's office, said the matter has been referred to the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission.

As of this afternoon, the commission could provide no additional details on the bear or its whereabouts.
