CLAYTON — An 80-year-old Clayton woman was killed when the car she was driving on U.S. 70 Business collided with a tractor-trailer rig today, according to Clayton police.

Clayton resident Julia Chernik Bilenky, the driver and sole occupant of the car, was taken to Wake Medical Center but died from the accident.

The driver of the truck — William Keith Green, 36, of Apex — was not injured.

Clayton police are continuing their investigation but don't anticipate filing charges.

According to the police department’s preliminary investigation, at about 5 p.m. the 2001 Mercury Marquis Bilenky was driving pulled onto U.S. 70 at Medical Park Drive into the path of a westbound truck, which collided with the driver’s side of Bilenky's car.

The accident closed westbound U.S. 70 Business for about an hour, and gawkers also delayed eastbound traffic, according to police. Detoured traffic produced heavy congestion on Shotwell Road, Old Garner Road and Guy Road, and four minor accidents were reported.
