DURHAM -- Internal Affairs detectives in the Durham Police Department are investigating the unauthorized access to a police promotional test, Police Chief Jose L. Lopez Sr. said Thursday.
"There's no indication at this time that there's more than one officer involved," Lopez said.
He said the accusation started as a rumor, but investigators found that it had substance.
Lopez wouldn't say how the officer, who is currently on desk duty, obtained a copy of the test.
"That window of opportunity is closed, and it was a very short window," Lopez said.
Durham police promotions involve written and oral exams. The officer, who was able gain access to the sergeant's exam, was not promoted, said Lopez, who is waiting for a report on the investigation before taking further action.
