A little less than half the state remains in drought conditions, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor's weekly report.

Most of the Triangle is abnormally dry, according to the report out today. Because parts of Wake and Chatham counties are in moderate drought, however, both counties are classified as experiencing moderate drought conditions.

Of the state's 100 counties, 28 counties in the western part of the state remain in extreme drought. The drought has abated in Eastern North Carolina, particularly in the northeastern part of the state.
