ROUGEMONT MAN WINS ALUMNI AWARD: Matthew S. Farabaugh of Rougemont received the C.W. Schrenk Young Alumnus Award from the board of trustees of the Williamson Free School of Mechanical Trades, in Media, Pa. Farabaugh, a 1999 graduate, was recognized for his contribution to his profession and society. He is an outage manager for Progress Energy Inc., where he has worked since 1999. He is a member of River of Life Church and has served as an assistant high school wrestling coach.

BROUGHTON SENIOR GOING TO COAST GUARD ACADEMY: Everett Brown, a 2008 graduate of Broughton High School, has been appointed to the Coast Guard Academy. His parents are Ben and Sara Brown of Raleigh.

FOUR FROM TRIANGLE WIN YOUNG ENTREPRENEUR SCHOLARSHIPS: The National Federation of Independent Business Young Entrepreneur Foundation has named four Triangle students recipients of the annual NFIB Young Entrepreneur Awards, a scholarship program designed to reward and encourage entrepreneurial talents among high school students. The recipients receive $1,000 to $10,000 in tuition assistance from the foundation. To earn a scholarship, students were required to write an essay describing their entrepreneurial endeavors and goals. Standardized test scores, GPA, and class rank also were considered. NFIB members across the country nominated applicants for the Young Entrepreneur Awards. The winners from North Carolina are: NFIB/Visa Young Entrepreneur Award -- Jason McMahon and Cody Lyon, both of Raleigh and Leesville Road High School; NFIB/North Carolina Leadership Council Young Entrepreneur Award -- Ryan Walsh of Raleigh and Leesville Road High School; and NFIB/Sam's Club Young Entrepreneur Award -- Geoff Hamrick of Raleigh and Cardinal Gibbons High School.
