RALEIGH -- A Raleigh police spokesman said today that a pregnant 21-year-old woman who was fatally shot Saturday night had an “interpersonal relationship” with the man suspected in her death, but he stopped short of saying the two were romantically involved.

“I do know they had some sort of relationship with one another,” Jim Sughrue, a police spokesman.

Police are searching for Khaleel Ajibola Oyeneyin, 22, on a murder warrant in the death of Corinnie D. Broadway.

Police are also investigating reports that Broadway, a native of Oakboro, a hamlet about 35 miles east of Charlotte, was pregnant at the time of her death.

Broadway was found inside her apartment at 2124-205 Larson Drive by an unnamed man who lives several blocks away at Summerkings Court, according to a police incident report. Police reported that the shooting occurred about 6:23 p.m.

Broadway, a 2004 graduate of West Stanly High School, was found dead shortly before 7 p.m. in a residence in the 2100 block of Larson Drive, authorities said. There have been reports that she was a Shaw University student, but a spokeswoman with Shaw's student affairs office declined to comment.

“She has a twin brother, Cory James Broadway, who played basketball. They are really nice people,” said Sylvia Hinson, who works in the guidance office at the high school.

“She was a sweet, sweet girl,” Hinson said.

Oyeneyin, a native of Nigeria, may be driving a white 1995 Lexus GS 300 bearing the North Carolina license tag XNM-5900.

His last known address is 8215 Perry Creek Road, according to state records.

He was convicted in Wake County of felony possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana in 2006. He was placed on probation and ordered to submit to drug treatment and assessment, court records show.

Oyeneyin has been charged with two previous firearm violations. In 2006, he was charged with discharging a pistol in the city. He also was charged last year with felony possession of a firearm by a felon. Both charges were dismissed, court records.

Anyone with information about Oyeneyin’s whereabouts is asked to call the Raleigh Police Department at 890-3555 or CrimeStoppers at 226-2746.
