A helicopter of unknown origin was flying low over parts of Chapel Hill this afternoon, but appears to have left the area.
Chapel Hill Police Chief Brian Curran said his department investigated the helicopter after receiving 911 calls but could not determine who owned it.
An officer saw someone taking pictures from inside, Curran said, adding that it is not unusual for companies to hire aviation services to photograph land they are interested in purchasing.
"My understanding is that it is gone now and no harm done," Curran said.
Randy Young, a spokesman for the UNC-Chapel Hill Department of Public Safety, said the helicopter did not originate from the UNC campus or hospital.
Around 4 p.m., a blue and yellow helicopter began flying back and forth above Franklin Street in Chapel Hill.
