RALEIGH -- A line of thunderstorms Sunday night cut power to nearly 3,000 Triangle customers and temporarily delayed traffic departing Raleigh-Durham International airport.
Around Raleigh's North Hills, an estimated 1,172 customers lost power during the storm, according to the Progress Energy Web site. Another 977 lost power in a neighborhood along Six Forks Road, south of the Interstate 440 Beltline.
Both outages happened about 8:15 p.m., according to Progress Energy. The power company estimated electricity would be restored by 10:45 p.m.
At 10 p.m. Sunday, Duke Energy was reporting 397 outages in Durham County and 410 outages in Orange County.
The storms across North Carolina, combined with severe storms in the Northeast, delayed some departing flights from RDU. At 10 p.m., Charlotte Douglas International still was experiencing delays in both arrivals and departures, with runway delays of up to an hour.
