Johnston County authorities arrested an Angier woman Friday and charged her with sexually exploiting a 10-year-old girl on the Internet.

Gabriele Birzer Secrest, 45, of 500 Black Pine Drive in Angier was charged with one count of felony child abuse, Johnston County Sheriff’s office spokesperson Tammy Amaon said.

A sheriff’s department investigation was prompted by a May report from the Departement of Social Services, Amaon said.

The alleged incidents were captured on a Web cam mounted on a computer. Secrest is accused of spanking the 10-year-old girl and forcing her to perform sex acts in front of the camera.

Investigators have not been able to confirm how widely this video has spread online or who was the targeted audience.

“At this point, we have no idea who has been seeing it. There’s no telling,” Amaon said this morning.

Secrest remains in jail under a $50,000 bond.
