CORRECTION

A front-page graphic Monday outlining tax rates for Wake County towns did not include county fire tax charges for the town of Wendell. In 2007, property in Wendell was taxed $1,310 per $100,000 of value. In 2008, property will be taxed at $1,100 per $100,000 of value.

After months of work, Wake County and its cities and towns have set their tax rate for next year.

The process ran in tandem with the state mandated property revaluation, required every eight years. The revaluation assessed property values on average 42 percent higher across the county. Some values changed little from 2007s rate. Some values doubled or tripled.

To adjust for the revaluation, Wake County and its cities and town lowered tax rates to account for the rise in property values.
