CHAPEL HILL -- It appears that investigators have recovered the weapons they think Demario Atwater and Laurence Lovette used to kill Eve Carson.
Bills of indictment released today say the suspects used a sawed-off Harrington and Richardson 12-gauge shotgun and an Excam GT-27 .25 caliber semi-automatic pistol. The documents list the serial numbers for both weapons.
Neither the Orange-Chatham District Attorney's Office nor the Chapel Hill Police Department would confirm that investigators have located the weapons.
"We're not going to comment on anything that would be brought up in the trial," said Chapel Hill Police Capt. Jackie Carden.
Both men were indicted March 31 on first-degree murder charges in the March 5 slaying of the UNC-Chapel Hill student leader. She was shot five times, according to an autopsy report released last week.
