Raleigh-Durham International Airport is losing its only nonstop flights to New Orleans and San Antonio at the end of this summer, the latest in a string of flight cancellations.

ExpressJet announced Tuesday that it plans to halt all its flights that operate under the ExpressJet name, including its last two flights out of RDU.

Those flights are the only nonstops to New Orleans and San Antonio, although people still will be able to fly to those locations by making a connection at a hub airport.

The Houston-based airline blamed the high cost of fuel for the move. “If we had any other choice, we would not take this difficult action,” CEO Jim Ream said in a statement.

The cancellations take effect Sept. 2. Flights until then aren’t affected.

Customers with tickets for ExpressJet flights after Sept. 1 should call ExpressJet at (888) 958-9538 for a refund.
