The state legislature agreed Thursday to change the name of the N.C. School of the Arts to the University of North Carolina School of the Arts.

Without debate, the Senate took a final, unanimous vote, sending the name-change bill to Gov. Mike Easley for his signature. The school would get its new name Aug. 1.

The UNC Board of Governors asked for the change, saying it would make clear the professional training school in Winston-Salem is part of the UNC system.
